The monumental Historical Parade passes through the central square and the streets of the ancient town with more than 700 figures dressed in rich Medieval and Renaissance costumes.

The Historical Parade

The principal event is the Historical Parade “Soriano e I suoi Rioni (“Soriano and its Districts”), which sees parade in the central square and the streets of the ancient town more than 700 figures  appearing in rich Medieval and Renaissance costumes. Artistic dresses made in detail by skillful and capable seamstresses who draw inspiration for their creations from frescoes and prints of that time. Each neighborhood adheres to the historical age of using the colors of the district. This results in some truly fascinating displays in the square that excites the spectators every year.

The neighborhood Papacqua joins the festivities by evoking the serene life of its ancestors: shooting scenes, noblemen, Ladies, and Knights who flaunt luxurious and rich Renaissance costumes, carriages carrying princes, and the inauguration of Knights.

The Rocca district is characterized by the performance of the historical group of Swordsmen: sword fighting with acrobatic performances both in groups and one on one. They evoke the gestures of the “Captains of Ventura”, creating an atmosphere of suspense among the audience which always receives warm applause for the originality of the show.

Dressed in red, blue and white, numerous group of Musici (Musicians) arrive in the square from the district of San Giorgio (Saint George), recreating the battle that the same homonymous knight  undertook against the fierce dragon to liberate the girl.

La Nobile Trinità (Noble Trinity) , whose colors are cardinal red and ochre yellow show affection to the legendary Contrada  of “The old lady of the Carnaiolo”. It carries an allegorical chariot dedicated to her and fills the square with music, Ladies, Knights, Popes and Cardinals. All of this is combined with the festive and colorful performance of the group of Sbandieratori (Flag-wavers).

At the end of the parade prizes are given to the neighborhoods for the best decoration, best costumes, designing of the taverns, and for the best scenography.
